At 70-something, Barbara Hill is way, way cooler than I am. A Texas-based architectural designer, her Marfa home, covered by an extremely talented former colleague of mine, Amanda Dameron) in Dwell’s February issue, is a study in texture, height, minimalism and light. I loved the entire spread, but what I really want to emulate one day is the use of a vintage hotel sign as a privacy screen – or room divide. Hung from a blackened steel tracks, the large metal piece glides easily to block a window that frames the backyard. This definitely beat the cotton drapery panels that at the time I was having made to separate sleeping and work spaces in a long rectangular bedroom. Of course the cost comparison would probably be a bit dramatic, but that’s beside the point….at this point. PS – I also really love the sage advice above the sink by artist Alejandro Diaz.
